Holistic Medicine

Holistic Medicine encompasses a method of determining the cause of a health problem and solutions that are as close to the root of the problem as possible. The unifying principle is that one must “Consider of all aspects of an persons life, experience and history in order to discover the underlying dysfunction”. So, in addition to providing a comprehensive physical examination, we must learn about a patients behavior, medical and dietary history, environment, emotional stressors (family, job, school, grief etc.), and other aspects of the persons life.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the primary, and perhaps best known, treatments used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The practice of acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles into specific acupoints along your body’s meridians in order to balance and assist the free flow of qi.  Here are the key elements of acupuncture:

Qi (pronounced ‘chee’) is one of the oldest and most basic concepts in Traditional Chinese Medicine but also one of the hardest to define. Qi is considered the vital energy that exists in all of us and our universe. This concept exists in other countries by other names. In Japan, it is known as ‘ki’ and in India, yogis call it ‘prana’. In ancient Greece, it was known as ‘pneuma’ and in ancient Egypt as ‘ka’.

Meridians. Meridians are pathways that carry Qi throughout your body. Acupuncture points (acupoints) are located along the meridians and promote your body’s healing abilities by regulating the flow of Qi through these meridians. Over thousands of years, practitioners of TCM have mapped out 12 main meridians and 8 extra meridians on your body. Each meridian is connected to one specific organ, or group of organs, that govern particular bodily functions.

chiroThe chiropractic care offered by Dr. Feldman is focused on maintaining the integrity and alignment of the spine. Good alignment allows the proper functioning of the central nervous system. Chiropractic is the kind of care that helps many types of spinal disorders, pain from various joints throughout the body, neck pain, and back pain.

Chiropractic care often eliminates the pain caused by herniated discs, sprains and strains, and injuries such as falls or car accidents. By using many different forms of spinal adjustment and joint mobilization, greater mobility can be achieved along with reduction of pain. Chiropractic care also has the ability to eliminate stress, by eliminating tension.

There exists a variety of chiropractic treatments. The traditional adjustment is delivered manually while other types of adjustments use an instrument such as an activator. Soft tissue manipulation uses acupressure and craniosacral techniques.
